In all my 25 years of living in Dubai, I have never had a proper beach day at Jumeirah Beach Hotel – until now!
Ed and I headed over on Saturday morning, books and SPF in tow, for an afternoon by the sea. Jumeirah Beach Hotel very kindly reserved a cabana for us (these will set you back Dhs1,000 on the weekend), so we set ourselves up for a day of catching some rays. The shoreline is dotted with chairs, so if you’re not feeling the sun bed, you can take your book and read whilst the waves crash around your ankles.
At lunchtime, we headed over to the Beach Lounge (or Villa Beach, as it’s also known) and ordered our standard aperitif – Aperol spritz for me and prosecco for him. One of the most sensational spots I’ve ever found in Dubai, I cannot recommend the Beach Lounge enough for your next ladies night or weekend sundowners: every Monday ladies can enjoy free-flowing prosecco from 8pm onwards, and every day of the week from 5-7pm guests can take advantage of the happy hour – hello Dhs25 a glass of wine!
Sat underneath the iconic Burj Al Arab, we lunched on fresh seafood and more bubbles before heading back to our cabana for an afternoon siesta. The waiters are on-hand all day to top up your iced buckers of water – free or charge – and if you’re lucky and the kids don’t all get there first, the ice lolly man will also be round dishing out cooling citrus-flavoured treats.
