The best thing about Dubai summers, in my opinion, is the cheap hotel rates.
If you’ve lived here long enough, you’ll know Dubai quietens down a lot around the summer months, and with Ramadan falling in June this year, the city is practically a ghost town. (Ok, that’s a bit dramatic but you know what I mean…) Ed’s birthday is also in June, and I seem to have made it a habit to book a surprise staycation every summer to celebrate. This year? Anantara The Plam. I first laid eyes on this hotel when I visited the spa for an Elemis event – side note: every bathroom and toilet in the hotel is stocked with Elemis products! -, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
I booked us into a ‘lagoon’ room, which basically means your back door opens straight into your very own, private, 24 hour pool. Yaaassss! And if that doesn’t impress you, then maybe their mojito boat will. Yes that’s right, a bartender from Mai Bar spends the day driving a little boat around the pool, making cocktails for all the hotel guests. For dinner, head down to Bushmans, an Austrlian-style steakhouse, which serves all your favourite meats, including Kangaroo (which is surprisingly tasty)!
My only (very small) complaint was that the service was a little slow at times. When we arrived, we ordered room service for lunch and I was assured it would take a maximum of 35 mins, but over an hour later no food had come and I was ringing the in-room dining to chase up my order. (A similar thing happened later that evening when I found myself ringing reception, following up another in-room dining order.) However they more than redeemed themselves by surprising us with a bottle of prosecco and a birthday cake – complete with singing restaurant staff – for Ed.
Everything else was perfect, and overall we had a really lovely stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and I cannot waittttt to go back again!
