Last weekend, Sofitel Dubai Downtown invited me for a mini staycay at their plush hotel.
I escaped to the luxury 5* hotel on Friday to enjoy everything from their infinity pool over looking the Burj Khalia to an incredible dinner at Inka to the best nights sleep in their luxury king suite.
Hospitality in Dubai is always immaculate, and the Sofitel Downtown certainly didn’t cut any corners here – on arrival the bell boys took our bags before our feet could even hit the floor as we stepped out the car, and showed us to our humungous king suit on the 24th floor, which boasted views of the Burj Khalifa, the fountains and the rest of Downtown Dubai. The staff had left a little surprise plate of macaroons and chocolates for our arrival, so once I had eaten all of those and dumped our bags, we headed straight to the infinity pool to soak up the last of the afternoon sun.
For dinner, we were booked in to try Inka, a Peruvian restaurant on the 31st floor, which, as you can imagine being that high up, played host to an incredible panoramic view of the city’s twinkling Friday night lights. I’f I’m being completely honest, I’d never even heard of Inka before, and with Dubai opening about four new Peruvian restaurants in the last month, I was worried it wouldn’t measure up to its sharp competition. But – and I’m not just saying this because it was a review -, Ed and I were absolutely blown away by the food. The Wagyu beef and foie gras burgers, salmon roulade, 24 hour marinated boneless chicken and sea bass ceviche were unrivalled, and completely cemented the fact that this place had trumped any other Peruvian place I’ve tried recently.
In the morning, we headed down to Les Cuisines, their Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-esque breakfast room, characterised by bright pink, yellow and orange decor. Well, four croissants, two plates of English breakfasts with scrambled eggs and all the trimmings (yes, they have a pork license!), three glasses of orange juice and one pot of tea later, we were well and truly replete and decided to head back down to the pool for the rest of the day.
