The Dubai Design District is fast becoming one of my favourite dining destinations. Design and Conquer readers will know I’m already a fan of Italian restaurant Larte, and the other week my mum and I checked out (and loved) Chez Charles.
The d3-based restaurant calls itself a brasserie, which implies a slightly relaxed feel, but it boasts an air of upscale sophistication with crisp white tablecloths, chic French decor and a marvelous list of fine wines. Add a Michelin star chef to the mix and you can only imagine the calibre of dining experience.
We started our meal with foie gras terrine (one of the best I’ve ever had in Dubai), creamy burrata and wild sea bass carpaccio, all washed down with a bottle of Pouilly-Fumé (they also make a great Aperol Spritz for a pre-dinner aperitif). For mains we shared the equal parts delicious and Instagrammable whole roasted Dover sole, which is carved and served at your table. Truffle fries with parmesan cheese and grilled veggies were our sides of choice. I’m not a massive mille-feuille fan, but my mum adores the French pastry as a dessert, so I sat by and watched her devour the whole thing – another dish with a plate licked clean!
Chez Charles boasts a whole host of different theme nights, ladies nights, happy hours and brunches that are high on my list of things-to-try. I know the destination is a little out the way, but I highly recommend stopping by for a glass of vino and a French dish (or two) when you’re in the d3 area. Pre-Base fodder, perhaps?
