igh the Dubai sky, way up on the 68th floor of the JW Marriot Marquis, lies Weslodge, an up-marketing Canadian-style eatery.
I haven’t been for about a year, but the warm, elegant space never gets old. Imbued with plush sofas, statement chandeliers, 19th century portraits and taxidermy-esque décor in the form of several stag horns that look like they’ve been carried in straight off the ranch in Toronto, Weslodge is unrivaled when it comes to interiors (always a bonus when one is always one their Instagram game).
Yes, the ambience is quite spectacular – but what of the f&b? Well, the wine list ticks all my boxes. Due to the high import duty, it’s so hard to find a good selection of American wines in Dubai but Weslodge’s menu boasts everything from oaked Chardonnays to those big Californian cabernets – the dream.
Having opted for the latter, we moved onto the food. Burrata with pesto and a seabass ceviche kicked off the evening. For main we couldn’t have gone with anything other than their signature southern fried chicken (I can also confirm from previous experience that the steaks are pretty damn good) with a side of thick-cut chips – a vision of health, I know.
Weslodge, you had me at the cheese and wine, but the dessert really sealed the deal. Warm cookie dough with vanilla ice cream oozing over the chocolate chips – I mean… Have mercy…
