You’d be forgiven if you haven’t yet heard of Pollo Pollo…
The Peruvian-style eatery is tucked away on Umm Al Sheif road (more commonly recognised as ‘next to Maria Bonita’), and has only been open six months. It’s the first restaurant of its kind in the UAE, offering traditional and South American street-style food at an extremely affordable price. The menu (like the restaurant) is very small, with not a lot of choice, but what you do choose will surely not disappoint – the chicken is tender and tasty, the sides are fresh and healthy (think quiona salad and salsa Criolla), and the drinks are like nothing you’ve ever tried before (order the Chica Morada, which is made from purple corn!). To sum it up, this place is like Nandos, but a lot more interesting. Every dish has a authentic and signature flavours with a story behind it, and I should know as the super friendly owner and founder of Pollo Pollo was there, talking us through the concept.
