A new restaurant has hit the gastronomy scene in DIFC, and it will transport you straight into a Peruvian dream.
Inspired by their travels and culinary admiration of South America, co- founders Ali Sidani, Rania Al Khalifa and Ahmed Ramadan bring you Totora Cebicheria Peruana, a two story eatery that boasts the most authentic flavours of Peru.
Initially I found the restaurant quite hard to find, as it’s really, really nestled away in the corner of DIFC, so make sure you keep an eagle eye out for Gate Village 7 when you visit. But once we arrived, we stepped inside the smart, contemporary space and headed downstairs to the bar area to try out some classic Peruvian cocktails. The staff were friendly and the service was quick, so we sipped on a White Lady (Tanquery gin, Cointreau, lemon juice, sugar & egg white) and Chicha Morada (which is made from purple corn) whilst we waited for our table.
Then head up stairs to indulge yourselves in an array of South American delights. For starters we feasted on tuna and seabass ceviche, beef empanadas, maki rolls, octopus and the oh so Instagrammable Trio de Causa, aka the three colour mashed potatoes. The sharing concept continued through to mains, where we all ate our share of the most delicious lamb, which had been slow cooking for 13 hours, tenderloin and various veg including asparagus and Portobello mushrooms. Always one to make room for dessert, we finished off a lovely evening with a melt-in-your-mouth chocolate fondant and deconstructed cheesecake.
