If you’re staying on Lake Como, day trips are a must.
The towns are pretty small, so hopping on the ferry and visiting the other places around you is a must to make the most of your trip. From Menaggio, our neighbouring towns were Varenna and Bellagio, so off we went in the morning.
First stop was Varenna, where we stumbled across our lunch spot, Hotel Royal Victoria, which boasted the most gorgeous views of the lake. The food was pricey but worth it, and we dined on rabbit, tuna tartar, rooster and, of course, bread, olive oil and vinegar. The staff were very friendly, and we sat in the hazy summer sun sipping prosecco until our gluttonous little heart’s content.
Both towns were absolutely packed with tourists, so, if you’re stopping for lunch or some drinks, I highly recommend getting lost in all the back streets, where you’re sure to come across the more quiet (but equally as lovely) bars and restaurants. From Varenna, we sailed across to Bellagio, where we spent our time shopping *hello, new Prada sunglasses*, walking off our lunch (if you’ve got a FitBit, you’ll notice hitting 10k steps a day is a breeze), then sitting down for a much deserved apperotivo.
