Houses in the new Rixos Premium hotel on JBR’s The Walk, award-winning Italian restaurant ,Luigia, has opened its doors.
In the throes of a chilly winter – well, by Dubai measures anyway – there’s nothing like heading out for a warm, hearty bowl of pasta, washed down with a spicy glass of red. This is exactly what happened last Friday night when my mum, Ed and I headed to JBR to try out the city’s latest Italian ristorante.
Luigia already boasts four successful venues across Europe and has picked up a number of awards, including earning a spot in the top 10 pizzas around the world. The food – and a lot of the staff – are from southern Italy, so all the traditional costal dishes are on offer.
We sat back and let our ever so friendly waiter Dominico take our evening into his hands. We were treated to the restaurant’s best-sellers, starting with a plate of truffle-topped Petalis, beef carpaccio and mozarella di bufala (deep fried pizza douch with mozarella and an arsenal of fresh cherry tomatos). For mains we tucked into their award-winning Neapolita pizza, which came with oodles of dripping cheese, a bowl of the Scialatielli ai frutti di mare (spaghetti with seafood) and fusilloni alla norma (fusilli pasta with eggplant and a tomato sauce). Dessert was the biggest nutella-filled calzone, which we washed down with an Italian dessert wine.
