Dubai’s brand new lifestyle destination La Mer has opened down in Jumeirah 1, bringing with it nearly 150 restaurants, cafés and retail outlets, but Slab is the only one you need to know about.
The homegrown concept boasts the most delicious menu, where the food looks as good as it tastes, and every dish is under Dhs100. I repeat: EVERY dish is under Dhs100! It’s so good it’s even worth battling the horrific traffic that comes with visiting La Mer. Slab was founded by investment banker-turned-restauranter Fadi Al-Said, who was inspired by his travels and culinary findings around the world.
We got stuck in straight away with a bunch of starters to share: the quinoa broccoli salad and the roasted vegetable salad kicked off our lazy Saturday lunch.
For mains, we were recommended the duck confit and slow cooked beef tataki – both absolutely bursting with flavours thanks to the fresh (and locally-sourced) ingredients. We got a bit excited with side dishes and ordered the zucchini fritters and the baked pumpkin with feta and parmesan, both of which were unbelievable delicious, but filled our stomachs right to the brim.
Just when we thought we couldn’t eat anymore, Slab insisted we try one of their gourmet sandwiches of roast beef, caramelized onions and pickled vegetables on sourdough bread – a game-changing sandwich, if there in fact is such a thing!
We washed it all down with a ‘Zen Garden’ juice, made from fresh cucumbers, fresh lemon and ginger ale before heading out for a swift walk around La Mer to let that food go down.
Slab, we cannot wait to come back!
