Is there anything better than an Aperol Spritz in the sunshine? Probably not. And if you find one, let me know.
Let the Gods rain neon orange on me in my search for the best sweet, bitter Aperol nectar in Dubai…
Ravioli & Co – 9/10
Trust a traditional Italian eatery to offer up one of the best Spritzes in town. The ideal aperativo, in the most charming location, before chowing down on one of Ravioli & Co’s many, many delicious dishes – molto buona!
Drift Beach Club – 6/10
Someone really needs to educate bartenders at Dubai’s major beach clubs (Barasti, Blue Marlin etc…) that just because Aperol is a liqueur, that doesn’t warrant a one-shot-per-drink pouring ratio. And if you ask for some more Aperol (because what they’ve presented you with is a watery mess), they charge you for a double! This is a vodka-coke situation huns, in the name of the Aperol Gods, please learn how to fix a stiff drink.
Crazy Fish – 9/10
One of – if not the – best Aperol Spritz I’ve had in Dubai. Why? The waiters are all Italian, a the bartender hails from Venince, the OG of Aperol Spritz. One point lost for the plastic straw.
Chez Charles – 8/10
Knowing my love of blood orange cocktails, the restaurant manager insisted I try their Spritz with a twist – and it’s not for the faint-hearted. The cocktail pictured below features a splash of vermouth that’s set to warm your insides. They’re quite strong, so I couldn’t drink them all nice, but I’m always up for trying something new. Point lost for the plastic straw.
Trattoria Toscana – 8/10
Bingo! Finally somewhere that’s bucked the archetypal (and totally unnecessary) plastic straws in favour of something slightly more environmentally friendly (although lest we forget that we’re still chopping down trees to make paper straws…). Italian eateries also put on a good Aperol show, and this Madinat-based haunt is no different.
Larte – 9/10
It’s such a shame this plastic is a total destination location, because my God do they make a good Aperol. Another Italian restaurant that hits the orange nail on the head. Next time you’re in d3, make sure you give this place a visit. Points lost for – you guessed it – the plastic straw.
Villa Beach – 7/10
If the colour doesn’t give my answer away too much, in short, the Aperols here are a tad on the watery side. But if you don’t visit for the Aperol, make sure you give the ladies night a whirl – it’s still one of my favourites in Dubai!
Whils the cocktails themselves were quite tasty, the pool bar at the InterCon hotel lost points for some of the slowest service I’ve ever experienced. Not a bad little summer swimming escape to beat the heat, though.
