Dinner at Un Dimanche à Paris, Bluewaters

Un Dimanche à Paris, Bluewaters

I’ll be honest, if I happened upon this waterside eatery whilst strolling along Bluewaters, the likelihood of me going inside wouldn’t be all that high. The lime green table settings atop plastic tables and chairs don’t scream ‘fine dining’ – but boy could I have been more wrong.

In a city where there is no shortage of gastro competition, it really does come down to two things: great service and great food – of which Un Dimanche à Paris restaurant has both. The team had clearly done their homework before our arrival, because my parents and I were greeted with Aperol Spritzs on arrival and asked to take our pick of tables. Unfortunately, June in the Middle East means we’ve firmly traded al fresco dining for the comfort of the AC for the next four months, so we missed out of the chance to sit under the twinkly Bluewaters lights and pulled up a seat inside (we will definitely be back in winter because Un Dimanche à Paris boasts a postcard-worthy terrace overlooking the Marina skyline).

We started with a creamy yet cloud-like ball of burrata in a halo of fresh tomatoes and a saumon gravlax (sashimi-like slabs of salmon with a zesty lime, creamy avocado dressing and salad). For mains, my dad and I devoured a truly delicious burger each – think fat, mid-rare patties dripping with juice and Beaufort cheese served with big, fat chips on the side. Ed’s main of slow-cooked beef cheek served with oodles of Aligot (a side dish made from cheese blended into mashed potatoes) gave me a major food envy, too.

Now, we’re at a French, remember, so the vin rouge is not to be overlooked. A delightful bottle of Les Hauts Castelmaure Corbieres 2016 washed down the red meat perfectly and left our palettes ready for something sweet. Un Dimanche à Paris is famed for their pastries and desserts, so we couldn’t possibly leaving without trying some of the best-known French delicacies: a profiterole and crème brûlée. Et c’était parfait.
