6 Ways to Stay Inspired When You Just Can’t

If you live in the UAE, you’ll know that summers are pretty slow. The unbearable heat means that everyone is travelling, you can’t step outside for longer than 0.03 seconds and, generally speaking, it’s a very dull time to be in the dessert.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve felt burnt out, bored and extremely uninspired in terms of blogging. I’ve had absolutely zero motivation to create any kind of content, and I enjoyed a bit of an impromptu social media detox because of it. It’s a frustrating feeling, so I thought I’d share a few things that helped me get inspired and back in the game…

Take a Trip (or at least book one!)…
Getting away and recharging your batteries is so important for a fresh mindset. At the moment I’m counting down the days to my Italian adventure (17 to be exact) and I just know I am going to feel so refreshed when I get back.

Get Visual…
Pinterest is my saving grace for this. As is buying endless amounts of magazines to riffle through. If, like me, you’re a visual person, then gathering plenty of magazine tears, articles, outfits, Instagram posts, and anything else you can get your hands on, will most definitely help.

Change Something…
Whether it’s changing a medium or simply changing your camera lens, perhaps the reason you’re feeling uninspired is because everything’s become a bit too ‘samey’. I recently sold my old Canon and swapped it for a swanky new Olympus with some uber cool (albeit cripplingly expensive) new lenses, and it made me so excited to get back out there and shoot new content.

Work With Someone New…
Whether it’s a new brand or a new photorapher, there’s nothing like a collaboration to get your creative juices flowing. I’ve recently teamed up with new brand on the block So Shru, and got creative styling and shooting some pieces from their latest collection.

Go Offline…
My social media detox wasn’t planned, but it was certainly enjoyed. From not having deadlines to answer to, to not wanting to check your phone every 5 minutes, take advantage of an oppertunity to go offline and rid yourself of the negative influences that social media might be having on you – especially in summer, when your Insta feed is most likely littered with tanned, skinny, bikini-clad girls summering in Santorini. *Hello green eyed monster!*

Make Lists…
Writing down (or talking about) the reasons why you’re proud of what you’ve achieved so far is a great way to remind yourself why you started in the first place. I’m not really a list maker in the physical sense, but on one of those down days, I turned to my boyfriend and said “sometimes I wonder why I bother with all this blogging malarky”. Turns out, seeking praise from a third party is also a great way to get motivated again!
