I’m so stuck in my sartorial ways that usually, when a new and slightly daunting trend comes round, I cower away from it.
The corset trend? No thank you. Geek chic glasses? Nope, not happening here. An ’80s revival of the one-shoulder trend? I doooon’t think so! And then I started started seeing some of my favourite Instagrammers wearing dresses over jeans.
Yes, that’s right, pretty floral frocks with lashings of ruffles, worn over a pair of ripped denim pants – wut? At first I was confused – why ruin a pretty dress with an unnecessary pair of trousers worn underneath? But my stance soon changed. Perhaps it’s my affinity with modest dressing that drew me to it, but it was a trend I instantly fell in love with. And actually, wearing dresses over jeans makes perfect sense. It’s the perfect mixture of casual and dressy, it’s an easy way to tackle the layering trend, and it breaths new life into all your old pairs of distressed denims.
I found this t-shirt dress whilst rummaging through the rails of Zara and decided to give this trend a go. It immediately transformed a dress that would probably be reserved for beach days and trips to the supermarket, and instantly made it wearing for work. Chuck on a pair of heeled mules and you’ve even got yourself #ootn!
