Modern Middle Eastern restaurant and lounge Zahira is putting on a series of tastings that are not to be missed.
I headed down to the swanky H Hotel on Sheikh Ziad Road a few weeks ago to check out the eight course menu paired with Victorian wines – and no, I’m not talking about vintages from the 1800’s, but rather a carefully curated selection of delicious wines from the southeastern Australian state.
This was my first time eating at Zahira, and I was seriously impressed. Headed up by renowned chef Greg Malouf, each course is an explosion of traditional Arabic flavours with a modern twist; fresh breads that were still warm when they reached the table, signature mezze dishes, grilled meats served in mouthwatering sauces and desserts that were almost too pretty to eat. Each course was paired with a complimenting wine, which the sommelier will tell you a about, so fear not, wine noobs, for this tasting caters to the most amateur of grape drinkers.
