Come inside our girly getaway to the Yas Viceroy, Abu Dhabi.
Whenever Dubains decide they’re going to a concert on Yas Island, more often than not, the first thought is, “where are we going to stay?” Getting home can be such a ballache, especially if it’s late at night and you’ve been drinking, so we booked ourselves in to the famed F1 hotel, Yas Viceroy.
It was the first time I’d ever stayed there, and with all the hundreds of snapchats and instastories during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, I was dying to see what all the fuss was about. Unfortunately, with the concert starting at 8pm, and check in not till 4pm, we didn’t get to spend much time in the lovely hotel room in the afternoon.
Once we dumped our bags around 5pm, we made our way up to the oh so cool Skylite Lounge rooftop bar for happy hour, where cocktails were going for just Dhs25. It was so hot outside, so we nailed some frozen margaritas to cool down and then headed over to Olly Murs. After bopping about in the crowd for a couple of hours, we embarked on our five minute walk home (yes, really – the Du Forum is just outside the hotel), climbed into bed, clad in our fluffy robes, and set about eating the complimentary fruit basked and chocolates they had left for us.
The next morning we headed straight for the breakfast buffet, which was actually one of the more disappointing ones I’ve tried. No pork, no smoked salmon and a very small, crowded room. Nonetheless, we piled our plates high with pastries, eggs and fresh fruit before making our way to the stunning rooftop pool to catch some rays. Yas Viceroy bosts two swimming pools: one for families and one for adults – need I say which we made a beeline for! Every hour, the pool boys bought round refreshing treats, from ice lollies to cold flannels, really making you feel like you’re at a five star hotel.
